Which Receiver?

My 1972 Sony 6055 died a couple of days ago. When I look at the new equipment Wow, I should have kept up!! I would like some suggestions on what receiver to replace the Sony with. I will be using 1970, JBL Nova 88, 50watt 8ohm bookshelf speakers. I would like to stay in the $300-$500.00 price range.

I don't plan on any home theater stuff, just plain old 2 channel stereo with am/fm stereo receiver.
