I read on website that Yamaha excels in surround processing and produces better surround sound ! Is this true ?

How does Onkyo compare with Yamaha in surround sound processing ?

Which of the following Yamaha receivers suit Wharfedale Vardus speakers ?
Yahama RXV-565 or Yamaha RX-V 765

Well, Yamaha does in fact have the best DSP chips in the business as far as their recreation of actual acoustic spaces is concern, so, yes.

If you're talking about their own proprietary surround modes, Onkyo own surround modes doesn't compares to the ones on the Yamahas.
Yamaha rules here.

The bigger the #, usually the better receiver. But in your case, anyone of these two receivers will do with these speakers. But just to play on the safe side, get the 765. I know I would.

Thank you LOTR

In surround sound i meant, those those background sounds from movies which make the movie enjoyable and more realistic ?

Without 765 in picture how good is yamaha 565 alone ? Does this have good surround processing modes which yamaha is famous for ?

If you're talking about Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA from the Blu-ray discs, and decoded by these receivers, these two receivers are equal.
If you're talking about the DSP surround effects, added to the original soundtracks, like Yamaha YPAO, and Onkyo Audyssey, then it's a question of personal taste. Me, I prefer Audyssey.

Yes, the 565 includes few of the good DSP surround modes which Yamaha is famous for.
But everyone has his own opinion about them. At the beginning, it's fun to play with, but you'll soon get bored after a while, like I did with my own Yamaha. I was not using them anymore, or only very rarely with some Jazz & Classical music, but not for very long.
I'm a purist.

To my understanding are DSP surround modes in a/v receiver similar to equilizers(rock, pop, jazz) in stereo ?

Does Onkyo 607 support HDMI pass through(video/audio) whilst in standy mode like Yamaha 565 ?

1. DSPs are like signals that are processed through some complex calculations, using reverb time, delay time, room dimensions, timing of the reverbs, timing of the delays, and yes, Yamaha uses some Parametric Equalization into that process, but there is much more involved here, and that would take quite some time with complex algorithms to explained properly.

2. Yes, the Onkyo 607 supports HDMI pass-through. But not in Standby.
The Yammy 665 does that?

Check your dimensions before you decide on anything. The Onkyo is large.

When I was deciding between the Pioneer 1018 and Yamaha 663 the Pioneer was ruled out because it didn't fit properly in the space I had set aside for it. Left me with the Yamaha 663 which has been a champ.

Pat, you can always raise the shelf from the top of your receiver, to the next echelon.

But it's considered bad form when you have to bore out the back because it's too long!

You were talking about "Depth"?
I thought that Marantz receivers were the ones with the less depth. The newer ones as is.

* Besides, the OP doesn't seem too concern about size. Unless I missed something.
I just reread the entire thread, like I usually do with all other threads, and I did not see any mention of it. Perhaps you saw something that I did not.

If you connect a Onkyo 607 in 5.1 set up,can you adjust the volume of each channels seperately , eg adjusting surround channels volume or adjusting centre channel volume ?

If so can any one please tell me the page in the manual ?

5.1 receivers can have each channel adjusted manually through the setup display. They cannot have the volume adjusted using the volume knob. This is all for equalization purposes since most homes do not have each speaker at the same distance. It also allows the user to adjust for speakers that have different efficiency ratings.

LotR - the reason I brought up size is that not all reasons have the same dimensions. If the the OP hasn't thought or figured out what will fit in the designated spot then the OP needs to. And no, you didn't miss anything about size.

Yes, you can, it's in your manual, just look.

* If you check in your manual, you'll find the exact page. It's right in there, look.
