Have a question for the forum. I have been trying to research True HD sound but have not been able to get through the confusing lingo.
I have the Toshiba HD-A2. In the specs and printed on the actual machine it says TrueHD. So I am guessing my hddvd player is all set. I have movies with TrueHD soundtracks, so that is all set.
I am in the market for a new receiver. I want it to be able to be capable of having Truehd. It was my understanding that if the dvd player has the capability of Truehd, then all you need is a receiver that has an HDMI input. So thinking that, I picked up a Sony - 630W 6.1-Ch STR-DG710. I then found out that I could only get truehd in stereo, not from a surround sound setup. So I returned it.
So now I am in the market for a 300-450 dollar receiver that can either accept at least 5.1 Truehd or help decode it.
Here is one I see now that may get me truehd sound.
Onkyo TX-SR605S 7.1-Channel Receiver
My big question is: If I have a hd dvd player that has Truehd, do I need to spend money on a receiver that advertises Truehd – or will a receiver with just HDMI inputs work?
Also, does the HDMI input on the receiver need to be 1.3?
Warning - I do get easily confused with lingo like “HDMI-switching” and “down-mixing” and things of that nature
Thank you in advance for any help
(Also – I realize hd dvd lost the war and I have a PS3 for blu ray– but the setup in question is in another room and I cant bring the ps3 in there)
