It's not the one that was considered, but FWIW, I built one of these last month.

No veneer yet, I sprayed it with black laquer for now, (I have no idea why they thought grey would be a good color), until I get some veneer skills and sources. But I do have to say, I love the thing. I run it at about 3/10th power, and had to tighten every lightbulb in the house. You can feel your inner organs vibrate, and the thing isn't even ported. That said, it's huge, and 170 lbs., but that still worked for me.
That sucker ate up my old MartinLogan sub.
I've done a few other kits of theirs (the Usher kits), and have been very pleased. If you have basic DIY skills, it's a great deal.
Buy once, cry once.
The Outlaw stuff impresses me as well.
