I have seen speaker set ups with the speakers mounted on the wall and "tilted" for what I am assuming is an optimum listening level. What is the opinion of the group. Should speakers be mounted on stands? Or are wall mounts just as good, for optimum effect and clarity???????

mid and tweeters are very directional, so you just want to point them at the listening spot. how you mount them to get there is best determined by room needs. the mount won't really determine your acoustics as long as it's solid and stable..

Tilting direct radiator speakers mounted to your left and right at 90 degree angles will call attention to them which is not what was originally intended for movies. In movies you're trying for an immersion effect. Please read and study the diagrams in these three articles>>

For listening to music with direct radiators it is recommended that the surround speakers be placed from 135-150 degrees from center. Either tilting the speakers or leval speaker stands are okay in this situation.

If you're try for a combination of movies and music with 7.1 channels refer to the three articles for confirmation of what is said here.
