Which is better? 1 sub or 2 subs?

2 subs are ALWAYS better than one sub, especially in small rooms. It's not about the added SPL as much as it is about superior modal control to achieve smoother bass response in a wider listening area. If budget is a concern go with the lower model and get 2 instead of one higher model unit.

Check out our Setup Tips section for articles on this topic.
Thanks gene,.. I might take the last 2 units on their stock. I want to look for other brands and manufacturers of sub but the market here in dubai is limited.
Anyway, thanks for the suggestion... GOD Bless

Well, JBL Harman research, very extensive, would show this to be true and actually would dictate 4 as best. But, not sure 'Always' means 100%. May need to re-read their research. Perhaps there may be an exception someplace?
4 subs is best in rectangular shaped rooms. 2 works almost as good, especially if you EQ them properly.

"always" is a strong word

Always is way too strong of word in a complex situation such as this. Without going into unnecessary detail, take a look at the graphs of the data obtained in your link to harman.com that show their experimental data of subwoofer configurations ranging from 1 sub to 18. "Always better" is not just too strong, but incorrect in this situation because of problems with wave interactions. True multiple subs are usually better in a situation with seating in different areas of the room, but this is not this case with everyone's HT room.
