Which bookshelf speakers with....

Hi guys,

First message so apologies for my newbee questions and probably not much help for answering any questions...

Here we go :

I'm replacing my Hifi system (no HT) as for now, I only have an outdated, not very efficient Philips combo system....

I'm in the process of uploading my music on an Olive opus 4HD as source.

For the amp, I'm thinking of a NAD c326BEE, and this is where the question comes :what would be a good pair of bookshelves ?

Budget : ~1k$ for the pair. Room : living-dining-room, roughly 10'x20', and I'll have to put them quite close to the wall. (I also have a WAF to take into account...). Music : rock, jazz and pop (and occasionnaly, metal ). Don't need exceedingly window shattering volume (kids and wife... )

I've had a look at Paradigm Titan, Audio Monitor BR2, KEF iQ30, even Klipsch, but I just can't make up a nice short list to go and listen to....

Any advice is welcome....

So many possibilities, getting lost...

I'll second the Sierra-1 but they're rear ported which means installing the optional port plugs if you need to have them really close to a wall. Review

I second the Ascends.

Its worth noting about the Aperion Audio recommendation is that they are one of the only internet direct companies that allows you to audition their products at home "risk free" during the 30 trial. With most companies you have to pay for return shipping if you decide to return them.

Have you seen the Home Theater Mag reviews on the NHT AbsoluteZero bookshelf speakers?

The 5-point average on-axis & +/- 15 degrees horizontal/vertical off-axis from 200Hz - 10kHz is +/- 0.9dB! That is superb for any speaker. I think the -3dB bass level is around 85Hz.

I've owned the NHT SuperZero in the past, and I thought they sounded great.

If you can find any to audition, I recommend looking into Aurum Cantus. The international version of the Leisure 2SE can commonly be had for well within your budget, and has gotten some glowing reviews:

The U.S. version is better, but costs more and is harder to find. I say more about this in another thread:

There are also other models of Aurum Cantus speakers, though I know much less about them. However, I would recommend auditioning any of them that you can that are within your price range.
