A mod on r/htpc removed this for asking about 'Audio Out' from HTPC. He, i'm assuming, didn't like the fact that I had a gpu in my htpc. Hey, it outputs a better video quality than the mobo. Also said it makes no sense to use the audio from the gpu over onboard audio. That it was a stupid thing to ask. And that other forum members would roast me for asking it. And said I didn't get technical with my set up. Like what my gear is and use case. All that was there. Made fun of the price of my avr, why? But he? she? was like "not on my watch". I responded in our DMs that Audio is half of A/V. It's one of the things a HTPC does. All I wanted to ask was which is better in my use case. Which I think I explained very well. If not, let me know.
Here is the actual post.
This question has been in my head for a few weeks now. It's something I need to address. As this weekend I'm resetting my HTPC. Fresh install of 24H2 and lastest vers. of all of the Software, Firmware, Apps, and Drivers I use. And 3 new HDDs. I will also reset to Default my AVR, TV, and Series X. Redo all settings and Update everything and add a Apple TV 4K. Though it won't be in the A/V chain of the htpc. Adding it to my system makes me want to wipe everything and start fresh. An excuse to tinker.
This is truly HTPC only. No webz, gaming, etc. Only web use is when I add content from a Outside source. I do have a separate battle station that is my daily driver pc wise. Movies/TV and Music only.
I had a quick glance at a forum or thread about someone ranting about Nvidia Hi-Def Audio when using one of their GPUs. That it was not the best for 5.1 sound output. Should I turn it off and why? Should I use the Realtek On Board Audio Vers. 10.0.26100.1 / 6.0.8703.1 Or, stick with the Nvidia HD Audio
My MoBo only outputs audio thru the hdmi. There is no S/PDIF or Coax outputs.
