Which 12" sub for a 2ft3 sealed enclosure?

With the Rhythmik how much does it cost... I couldn't find a price. And it says 2.8 ohm VC... the O audio isn't supposed to go below 4 ohms... would that be a problem?

$210 regular but you can call and see if they have any on clearance for a discount.

Edit: Eh, didn't see that. Not sure.

If that's the case maybe a GR research 12 4-ohm would be a better option.

I had two of the older model DS1200 in PartExpress enclosures powered by a EP2500 and really liked them. I got them for just over $100/ea awhile back, now one of Pzaur's friends has them both.

175 is a bit low for most drivers these days. Your best bet would be the Dayton Reference series. Fortunately they are very conservative on their xmax and you can probably get away with a sealed one. However the QTC is much too boomy for that size box.

For a bit less cost than the Dayton 12" Titanic, I'd recommend the Dayton RSS 315HF 12" subwoofer. It may not be quite as loud, but it will sound cleaner.

It is ideal for a sealed cabinet of about 2 ft³. And no, it's not at all boomy sounding. A 500 watt plate amp will be a good match for that driver in that box.

The driver's Xmax in this size cabinet can be exceeded at high power at 23 Hz or lower. But in a smallish sealed cabinet like yours, output is very well controlled in the low 20s by the impedance peak, so damage is unlikely. In a larger vented cabinet, this driver could be over-driven at low frequencies, but in a 2 ft³ sealed cabinet, mine has had no problem for about 2 years.

I think that is your best bet.

You can see F3 is around 43 Hz. That is very good for a sealed sub.

You can boost it 12db per octave between 50 and 25 Hz and then cut it off. You have enough xmax reserve to do this.

Qt is around 0.6 so bass will be nice and tight.

That driver is your best bet in your price range.

What are some other options if I go up to say $250?

If it's for the driver you'd step up to the Shiva-X #2. It's a very good sub that can be used in both sealed and ported alignments.

Would 500 watts push the Shiva X 2 in a sealed enclosure.

The driver will take up to 600 watts, but 500 watts will be fine.

F3 is 36 Hz, so Eq will need to be 12 db at 40 Hz.

Qt is around 0.7 so sound will be a little warmer.

Sensitivity of both is virtually identical, so one will play as loud as the other with 500 watts.
It looks like you still have the older TS parameters for that driver.

* Fs: 21.3 Hz
* Le: 0.95mH
* Re: 3.8 Ohms (Voice Coils wired in series)
* Qms: 3.09
* Qes: .45
* Qts: 0.39
* Mms: 206g
* Cms: 0.27 mm/N
* Vas: 97L
* Sd: 506 cm^2
* BL: 15.3
* X-max: 26mm
* Pmax: 1000W
* SPL: 85.1 db/1W/1M

these are the new parameters of the batch currently being sold.
The X #2 takes up to 1000 watts, but many folks use the 500 watt O-Audio bash amp with it so I'd not worry about it being underpowered.

If you want to port with a P-R Exodus does have a steep sale on their P-Rs.

WinISD likes a 1.617 ft^3 internal volume for the Shiva X #2

Actually the ideal volume is around 1 cu.ft to 1.5 cu ft. The smaller volume gives a Qt of 0.7 his box will have too low a Qt. Also F3 has moved up to 46 Hz.

It is now more of a car driver.

I would use the Dayton. If he is planning to use 500 watts, I don't see any advantage to the Shiva.

It seems the WinISD modeling comes up with larger values for volumes than BassBox. I suspect this is due to a lack of fill entry. Still given the 500 watts the two subs are nearly identical. I'd just get the cheaper one myself. You could even get a pair and build dual boxes for smoother in room response.
