where to get "cheap" audio rack

there are so many websites but I'd like to buy the good rack for heavy components for the best price :).
 
I use a TV rack that I got at Target for $20.:)
 
I like the Double Flexy, lots of room.:D
 
I got a sheet of MDF at Home Depot for about $15. They cut it into five 18" x 22" pieces for me.

I bought the three 36" 5/8" steel threaded rods at HD for about $5 each. Toss in the nuts, washers (I didn't bother with the rubber washers - all steel). I used my $20 cordless drill to drill the holes, then spray painted them black and assembled it. Easy easy.

BTW, MDF soaks up a lot of paint. If you plan on painting it, paint a primer coat and plan on at least 3 full coats with some sanding.

Yup. Grab three of the 5/8" threaded steel bars and head over to the nuts and bolts section to find the 5/8" bolts and washers to go with them. Buy the bags of bolts and washers, it's way cheaper. You'll need a lot... six of each per shelf. 5 shelves = 30 bolts and 30 washers.

Also, they sell "cap nuts" that are excellent for putting on the ends of the bars. Keeps the unfinished jagged edges of the bars from looking ugly or hurting people. Get six of these.

can't find threaded rods

All I found at home depot were small and short threated rods. I am not sure if they can support my heavy components (60lb+ each). I could not find any 5/8" in diameter rods neither. Is there any place i can buy bigger threaded rods? I'll try another home depot but even their "official website" doesn't say anything about these threaded rods.
 
Is there a Lowe's local?

What size did you find? A buddy of mine made his with 1/2" and that worked well for him.
 
there is one lowe's local store. I'll check it out tomorrow. will let you know the status buddy :).
 
I could not find any threaded rods that big enough. I have no idea where to buy them. any suggestion guys?
 
Here in Philadelphia I found 5/8" all thread rods at one of the local lumber yards. Any place that sells to the construction industry should have 5/8" all thread in stock. The 3ft lengths I bought were $3.50 each. The nuts were the most expensive item at about a dollar each even when buying a box. The washers were very cheap. I bought a large box so I could discard any that were cosmetically flawed.
I bought a 4x8 ft sheet of MDF and had the lumber yard cut it into 12 18"x24" pieces. I used a drill press and a home made jig to drill the holes.
I made a dual flexy but I used 2 rods in the middle and 1 on each end. I saved myself all of $3.50 by using 4 rods instead of 5..:cool:

Were they stainless?
 
I went to another Lowe's today and found 5/8" and 3/4" all threaded bars. I bought 3 of the 5/8" bars, 25 nuts, 25 washers, 5/8" drill and 96" solid wood rack :). I spent $68 dollars for the supplies. It's very cheap. I'll build my flexy table tomorrow lol.

BTW, use a level when installing the shelves. Lock down one corner with the washer above and below, but leave the top nuts backed off the other two rods. Adjust the lower nuts up and down with the level sitting on the shelf to get it straight.
 
I finished my project today. I spent $150 for the supplies. Too much? nah, I built double flexy table :). However I modified the top by cutting the middle bar about 2" lesser than the other 4 bars; therefore, it's flat in the middle for my LCD. I'll take some pix when I get back home on next tuesday.
