My bad, should have looked more closely at the receiver. I do agree if it is a receiver issue replacement would be a better option.

Seriously, I have no life.

Well actually your post made me research his particular receiver. unfortunately for the OP those Denon AVR 591 receivers are duds, with a very poor HDMI board. Many failed in 6 months, I guess a lot have bitten the dust by now. The receivers are known for dropping either audio or video as their boards go bad.

I'm 99% certain the OP needs to replace his receiver.

I would call Denon to see If you can get it repaired. Onkyo has been good with expired warranties as long as you still have a copy of the receipt of purchase, so I'm guessing Denon would follow suit as well.

The very reason why I was asking so many questions about the discs themselves as I was hoping it was not a receiver issue, because of the cost of replacing the receiver. I'm wondering if avoiding at least temporarily the cost of replacing the receiver, of course if replacing the receiver is an issue, if the OP can run the hdmi to his TV and optical from the player to the receiver for audio.

Ok, I loaded the software update last night and went ahead and played John Carter. The audio has always failed on this disk. Last night it played perfectly, so just a guess but the Samsung bluray player might have been at fault. Time will tell if I have found a fix or need to replace the receiver or the player or both.

Thanks for the feedback and your suggestions guys, I truly appreciated it. :D

If the issue crops up again, you can try to borrow another bluray player from a friend to see if the problem persists. Hopefully the firmware update will be the end of it though.
