I'm getting off the point, but this'll be brief: Someone earlier said that he started watching it, quickly noticed it was a show about nothing, and then turned it off. You missed the point. It's
not a show about nothing. It's a show about consequences.
Almost every episode, there's a small, almost insignificant incident that happens right at the beginning. And eventually, it becomes the cause for larger incidents and more horrible things to happen. One of the fun things about the show is to watch for that first small incident and watch the dominoes fall!
A perfect example of this is the backwards episode. They edited it together so that once a scene is shown, you then see what happened before it. And it started with such a huge mess -- someone's wedding going monstrously wrong. And with every succeeding scene, we see how and why it got to that point, until the very end, when it's a small, boring detail that set the whole thing up.
Because it's a show about consequences, you can't really set it anywhere too specific, like a bar or FBI headquarters or a prison. It needs a more general setting, along with characters who aren't specifically anything -- like a cop or a bartender or whatever. Characters who can just go with the flow.
The show is funny.
