What's wrong with Pioneer's non-Elite line?

Rather have your Denon than non elite Pioneer....they have little girly amps and dont deliver advertised power.....also tacky plasticy cosmetics like the props they use in model homes....

regardless of who makes what, the interesting thing about the current Pioneer lineup is the 1020 (consumer model) and the Elite 30 and the 1120 and the Elite 32. Elites have 2 year warranty, 12v trigger and serial connection, but are fundamentally the same as their consumer level model. (even the weights within fractions of a pound)

The price pressures on equipment manufacturers are intense and there is extensive cost cutting by everyone in the a/v business.

Do you really believe that the $300 cost-up difference for an Elite model is worth more than the standard Pioneer platform...

Just my $0.02... ;)

I would only buy the Elites if I were to buy Pioneer. But I don't buy Pioneer receivers anymore so it's a non-issue for me. ;)

Hmmm..
$300 for:
  • 1 Year more warranty
  • 1 Trigger out
  • 1 Serial connection

To me it doesn't sound like a good deal for $300..

Just my $0.02... ;)

Buy what you like. Having been a repeat Pioneer customer I simply prefer Onkyo or Denon. I've retired the last of my Pios and it's Onkyos in every room now.

Nope..
Don't have to buy..
Since we do product evaluations/test reports for certain major clients and publications, we get our AVRs gratis..

Presently we have AVRs from Elite, Onkyo, Marantz and HK..

Just my $0.02... ;)

Is your knowledge your 2 cents or based on your actual findings via testing? Is there a reason your clients and publications don't do in house testing? What testing company do you work for or is that not something you don't want to share?

Our $0.02..
Is based upon real world testing, for measuring specifications we use an Audio Precision(Cascade 2) so we can run the audio measurements in about 10 minutes for an AVR. We also do S/W evaluation, check for HDMI interoperability between products, and then communicate our findings and input to the sponsoring design/production teams in the Far East. We have been doing this for many years plus running an CEDIA certified AV install biz as well. In fact we recently sat down and calculated how many brands/AVRs we have been associated with and stopped counting @ 10 Million..

So yes we know which product meets specs and which ones tend to fib..
This process puts us into direct contact both with the design and production teams in the Far East. Though we do projects for different brands who are direct competitors, we keep our findings confidential to protect the innocent..

Frequently we will disclose certain obeservations about specific brands/products but only in general terms... As obviously we have to respect each brands reputation/image.

So, you won't disclose negative information about a brand because you don't want to harm their "reputation/image"?! Come on...

Frequently our summaries include negative information/findings about a brand/product but these are written for the client that is paying for these. Since we are under Non-Disclosure Agreements and to divulge the report content to an external discussion group or internet forum we could be held liable...

Just my $0.02... ;)
