What's this Cartridge Worth?

My Thorens TT came with an Audio Technica AT15S cart. The seller said it needs a new stylus, but he may or may not be wrong. We never tried it. Might have been a good idea, but I thought it was worth about $20 as a used cart. Turns out, maybe not. The stylus might be a shibata, unless there are options. I am tending to believe it is a shibata. There are a few of these carts listed on ebay in used condition for a couple hundred up to $431. Anyone have a guess what I should/could list it for with a questionable stylus?

The cantilever of that stylus looked somewhat beat up to me, and we have no idea how many hours are on it. Those cartridges sell with a good stylus for $150 to $300. A new stylus is $80. So I would list it with a starting bid of $75.00. My guess is it might get bid up to around $100.00.

I usually forgoe the auction option and just list item I sell on ebay as buy it now. Once in a while I do auction format with Buy it Now. Hardly ever just auction. I could just list it at $75 and call it a day.

That is a fair price and will probably do the trick for you.

These days the stylus can be more expensive than the cartridge was. Still rather buy new.

These days the stylus can be more expensive than the cartridge was. Still rather buy new.

Buying just a stylus was never a bargain when it was removable- they never sold as many without the cartridge body and even though they were made at the same time, the manufacturers charged more.

Many cartridges aren't sold any more that's for "shure" (lol).
