Seriously, I have no life.
You know low voltage and power glitches do as much harm or more than surges, especially in terms of frequency of events. I strongly recommend smart online UPS systems, especially those from APC.

I'm not sure what 'smart voltage' means but if it is the same as a typical power conditioner that does automatic voltage regulation (ie adjust the voltage if it is outside a specified range) then that is good, although not entirely necessary.

I have to disagree with TLS Guy on the UPS front. A UPS is generally not necessary for a HT system unless you need it to maitain power so a bulb can cool down or if you really require the system to stay up so you can continue to watch during a power outage. For computer systems, a UPS is an absolute must...but for HT systems, not so much. A good power conditioner willl do the voltage regulation and 'filtering' so the only thing a UPS buys you is increased runtime during a power outage. I have two UPSes for my computer systems and would not go without them but for the HT I have a simple APC H10 power conditioner and that is sufficient.

I'm going to continue to disagree on this one. We have had two cases this week of cable boxes going back to default with brief power interruptions. My experience has taught me that one of the best ways to reduce failure and prolong life of equipment is to use UPS devices. If computers need them, then the microprocessor boards of this sophisticated HT gear need them too.
