Whatch'a Stor'in Your Gear On?

OK, I figured it was time to post some more information of why I'm wanting to go with an AV rack. First, the TV cradenza I am currently using was not designed to house the amount of weight I have in it, nor does it fit properly (I made some slight modifications). Also, my long term goal for this project is to eventually install a projector on the back wall, making an AV rack pretty much essential. And lastly, I have some major cable management issues. The current setup is very difficult to work with if I ever need to change anything. I like being able to go back there from time time and tweak things etc, and right now it's an absolute nightmare! Here's some pics. This should be pretty self explanatory:

As you can see, this is a royal pain to work with. I'm looking for something that would meet the needs I mentioned, at least 4 shelves capable of holding 60-100lbs with ease (2 shelves need to be able to safely hold 100lbs). I was also hoping to keep this under $400 if possible.
:eek::eek::eek: Oh my you do need a rack badly don't you......:D

Wow Soundman!

I thought I had cable management issues with all my stuff sitting on top of mt TV, but you win.:D

I just bought and put together a Salamander stand that I will use as soon as we buy our new TV. I bought the extended rear panels for the back, because like you, I like to have the flexibility to move stuff around if need be. After I assembled it I don't think I'm going to use them now as the rack will be up against a wall. It's very well built and my wife loves the look. I know they are more than you are looking to spend, but I just thought I'd throw it in to the mix.

How much did it set you back? You got any pics?

I bought a StudioTech HF-4 rack that I put an extra shelf on. If you like, you can see it in my post in the "Member Systems Gallery." It's called "My Apartment Man Room."

I have this stand but in the rosebud color. I ordered it from racksandstands but I had them pricematch another site and got it for about $250. It also has velcro straps on the back side of it to help with wire management. I can't remember what the maximum weight limit is on each shelf but I can see if I still have the manual and look it up for you.

If you don't mind checking that out for me, I'd appreciate it. That's pretty nice for that price!

The one I bought is the Quad 20. I went with that one because we are going to be getting the Mitzu 82" Diamond when the come out sometime later this summer. It set me back about $2000.00, but like I said the WAF was the tipping point for this.

Here is a picture of the one I have off of their website. Mine looks EXACTLY the same.(Except I went with the stiletto feet.)

What I really liked was that, if you want, you can design your own to meet your needs. I only had to modify one of their "Popular Solutions" a little bit to get what I wanted.

Those Salamander's do look nice! Lots of flexibility too.

I agree it's not the prettiest. That's why it has a built in storage closet. :D
That seems to work well for your setup. Mines going to be right on the front soundstage so I'll need something a little more attractive. Eventually, I do plan to convert a closet into a control room, but that wont be anytime soon.

Like I said, they're not cheap but mine is going to be a prominent piece of furniture in our living room so my wife had to approve.:D

I'd like to add they're built like a tank also. I've had do it yourself modular racks before but never something with this type of quality. A little time consuming putting it together so everything was "just right", but well worth it. I'm a little anal when it comes to stuff like this so maybe "time consuming" was my fault.

I looked around and I couldn't find the manual. But I'm sure you could contact bush furniture and ask them.

This is what I'm thinking of going with, only in black not silver:

I'm thinking about going with one of these racks (the 1R) from Sorice:
http://sorice.com/frst.php3?target=asana

From the little info I could find on them...they are similar to the Salamander Archetype racks, but with fixed length shelf spacers made of solid steel, instead of the threaded steel rod Salamander uses.

I found one user review where the individual said the Sorice rack was sturdier than the comparable Salamander Archetype rack.

Very nice! I have something very similar in my bedroom. I think I picked it up at Target.

It's nice and sturdy, and my wife likes it because it keeps all the cables hidden, well for now anyway.

A lot of the stuff you see in my sig is going to end up in the bedroom pretty soon so cable management may become a problem.

Anywho, I really do like that stand, nice and classy.:)
