What went wrong? :(

There are plenty of examples of kids who were terrors when they were teens who have turned out right so there is always hope for them. I have hope for mine. My daughter was a lot like my son in terms of attitude and carelessness and she is now doing very well for herself now, so maybe he will get a real job and straighten up on his own.

Sorry to hear it jeffs4gsmac but all we can do is try to point them in the right direction and hope they've learned enough to do well.

what went wrong?

a single mother with two boys age 1 and 6. The looser that she was with ran out and left her with the kids.
not having a father figure to talk to for the first 6-10 years of his life gets my vote. I dunno how any kids end up normal just having a mom to take care of them.

No he had the looser dad up to age six then me after that. He was a good little kid. 11th grade is where it started to fall apart. He is a hyper emotional kid, always has been. His biological dad is a little sissy.

i can think of two:

1) he was 6 when you came into the picture. a 6yo is most probably already pre-disposed to do whatever they want to do in life.

2) his father's genes?

Yes, we both have talked about that. Genes are hard to beat sometimes.

Thats almost a carbon copy of my families story. My older brother and I got our new dad at ages 3 and 5. My brother joined the Navy out of highschool, and didn't like it and went missing for a while. He made a lot of wrong choices and caused a lot of problems for our family.

Now, he has a great job, lovely wife, and 3 of the most beautiful kids you've ever seen. It just took some time for him to grow up. If he'll stick it out in the Marines, he'll find a purpose.

Sorry to hear of what you are going through there. As hard as it is to let kids make their own choices we still have to stand back and let them make decisions, even if they are the wrong ones. If he is smart, he will learn from his mistakes, and hopefully not make them again. That age is a very challenging one for young men.

I was a hell raiser when I was kid, but I finally settled down one day and realised I couldn't go through life screwing up with my blinders on. I honestly never thought I'd live to be the ripe old age I am now, and I sure as heck didn't hink I'd have four kids. So my point is that there is still hope for him to straighten out.....:)

Hi Jeff,

I've known people like this and most straighten out and fly right eventually. It may take awhile and cause him and his loved ones lots of pain but if you know him to have good in him he should find his way.

Stay strong for his mother and brother. (as I'm sure you will)

Take care,
Doug
