Herb Albert - Rise

Wiki

In 1979, the song "Rise", written by Andy Armer and Alpert's nephew Randy "Badazz" Alpert but without an accompanying album, became a worldwide sensation. The 12" version was a favorite of club DJs and the 7" single, released on July 20, 1979, reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart in October, staying there for two weeks.

"Rise" was Alpert's first No. 1 hit in the US since "This Guy's in Love with You" spent four weeks there in 1968. Armer and the Alperts then set about creating an album to capitalize on the song's success, and Rise was released in September.

Seriously, I have no life.
As it happens, I'm listening to this very old LP, I think I have had for over 50 years.

A few weeks ago I received back from the UK my originally restored Quad 22 tube preamp.

I am playing it on one of my Garrard 301 turntables with the Decca ffss professional arm with a Decca ffss H4E variable reluctance moving iron cartridge. The sound is superb and pops and crackles are still absent.

One of my top favorite vocalist. I miss this dude. Great Songwriter as well and he sang background for Bowie! Glad I got to see him live on my Bday a few years ago before he passed. Scored recently TS. A- Condition. Truly missed. Lots of hits on here!

Aww man I just saw this.❤My deepest condolences to you my Brother. I dedicate this to your Mom.❤Luther passed awhile ago. Luther sang on the Bowie song Young Americans in the 70s. There is a video of them on YouTube.

Featuring Jose Feliciano on Acoustic Guitar and Gerald Albright on Sax!80s classic. El Debarge wrote or Co-wrote the songs he sang.

Thrifty lucky finds. I'm a huge fan of El Debarge vocals, so it was great to own on Vinyl. Got to see El Solo in Concert in NYC and he still could hit the notes! I took pics If I find them I'll edit and post em.

Neil Sedaka
IMG_23092021_142027_(1017_x_2000_pixel).jpg

Sedaka's Back is a compilation album by American singer-songwriter Neil Sedaka. The record, composed of selections from his previous three albums, which had been released only in the UK, was released on Elton John's label, The Rocket Record Company, in 1974. Three singles were released from this album: "Laughter in the Rain" (a #1 hit), "The Immigrant" (dedicated to John Lennon) and "That's When The Music Takes Me." The latter two songs were both Top 40 hits. Also included were songs that were turned into hits by other artists: "Solitaire" (The Carpenters) and "Love Will Keep Us Together" (The Captain & Tennille). The album reached No. 23 on the US Billboard album charts and was certified Gold for shipping half a million sales.

Thrifted and Minty. I've been looking for a 70s compilation of his since I have his hits from the 50-60s from last year. This was his comeback record and has my jam: Laughter In The Rain! Elvis covered the song Solitaire in 76, which is included here. I also found another album that I will post after this that completes the hits he had. All songs written by the truly talented Sedaka. Whoa lucky find yesterday. These are memories from listening to the oldies station In NY as a kid in the 80s.

He shares my late dad's Birthday.

Grover Washington Jr.
IMG_23092021_163046_(1035_x_2000_pixel).jpg

Winelight is a 1980 studio album by jazz musician Grover Washington Jr. The record received the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Fusion Performance in 1982. The album was released by Elektra Records. It includes the Grammy Award-winning hit "Just the Two of Us" sung by Bill Withers. The track "In the Name of Love" from the album was also released in rearranged form, without Washington's saxophone track, under the name of Ralph MacDonald and Bill Withers (on vocals).

Thrifted. Have had this album in various forms CD/Vinyl. Great to find it on Vinyl once again. With everybody's jam: Just The Two Of Us.

Got them Blues...
Sedaka✌

The Hungry Years is an album by Neil Sedaka, the title of which is an eponymous track from the album. It was released by The Rocket Record Company in 1975.
The album is the American edition of Overnight Success, with two songs being replaced.

"Bad Blood," a duet with Elton John, hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks, was certified gold, and was the most commercially successful single of his career; his follow-up, a slowed-down, bluesy remake of his 1962 #1 smash "Breaking Up Is Hard to Do," hit #8 on the Hot 100 and #1 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary Chart over December 1975-January 1976. "The Queen of 1964," from his British-released Overnight Success album, reached #35 in the UK in March 1975.

IMG_23092021_163647_(1367_x_2000_pixel).jpg

Also, The Captain and Tennille's cover of Sedaka's "Lonely Night (Angel Face)" from The Hungry Years, hit #3 on the Hot 100 and was certified gold. The title track, one of Sedaka's most frequently requested non-single tracks, marked Sedaka's reunion with Howard Greenfield after having broken off their partnership in 1973. Sedaka and Greenfield would again work together more regularly in the late 1970s.

The 2nd one I Thrifted. Never knew about the Elton John duet. It has my Jam: Breaking Up Is Hard To Do slow balad version! Great to find these UK vinyl versions and in like A- new condition.
