What to look for when buying a used subwoofer

Hi all,

I might buy a used sub from someone. I have never had one before. Can anyone give me some tips of things to look for on a speaker before I buy it?

I wouldn't want the sub to be too old. Ten years seem to be about what a plate amp will last, maybe more, maybe less. Make sure you are able to get the sub serviced if it goes bad, so you may want to rethink a serious investment in a some from a company that is no longer in business. What sub you looking at? How old is it and how much does the seller want for it?

2 things.

First, the subwoofer should be a good one.

Second, it should be in good working condition.

If it does not work properly, do not buy it. Do not buy it if it is a bad model.

So, make sure you listen to it before you buy it, and make sure that it is a model that is worth owning before you bother with going to listen to it.

It is an 8 year old SVS PB12 plus/2. I plan to listen to it for sure. I know parts are available. just not sure what else I should look at. What do you think a fair price for this would be?

SVS PB12 plus/2 is great sub. Look for AH review on the main site .
Price wise - $600 or below - depends on condition. $600 is for mint imho

That one is definitely worth considering.

I would say $600 for excellent condition would be a good price. I would not go higher, though I expect some people would.
