What to do with a Carver HR-752?

I have had this receiver since it was new, and it's been used very rarely. I want to upgrade to a 7.1 HT setup. Obviously I know I can sell it, but, that aside, can this be used as a pre-amp of some kind, or ? Anyone have any creative (constructive) ideas? Thanks.

I am assuming that the carver is a stereo receiver. You could use it to run a 2 channel system in another room or as the amp for speakers on the patio and in other rooms.

If you want to sell it, audiogon might be a good site for this purpose.

.....Carver is a name that is associated with quality....you could run the stereo signals through the pre-section of the Carver first, and then on to the new 7.1 if the Carver has pre-outs, and could notice an improvement....yes, you can run the pre-amped millivolted signal through 48 components before it's amplified, but remember a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link.....

I presume it is not a 5.1 receiver?

If it has amp inputs, use it as outboard amps on some of the channels. What is its power rating?

sorry for the somewhat off topic post, but when shopping last night came across a demo carver stereo receiver for 350 obo. power rating was i think 90 watts, of course i didn't think to get the model #. info said original msrp was 800-900. i had limited time last night and unit was not hooked up. i have zero experience with carver, but could use a nice receiver for my office, or could always find another use for it. does anyone with any carver experience have any input? thanks

As long as you know what you are getting, its capability as a stereo receiver, then it should be fine. Offer them $275:D

Carver experience

My HR 752 has been great, it's just time for me to move on. When this receiver was built, Carver was a very high quality name, and it shows. I would ask them if you can take a look at the insides (very easy to take off the cover). See how much dust is present. Look at the connectors, etc. Then offer them 250, and settle for 275. Let us know the outcome. Enjoy.
