What software are you using?

Alright, I have to ask because the buggy software I've been using for my dedicated 2 channel hi -rez 'server' is driving me nuts with decoupling from iTunes and playback issues - to the point where I want to scrap it and start over with something else. Any ideas? What are you guys using, and what kinds of issues are you having? I'm currently using Channel D Puremusic with a Macbook and a 4TB external hard drive, and it's making me nuts . I actually tried the 2nd version upgrade demo, and it was just as bad (not much of an upgrade). Just looking for folks who've had a good experience with what they're using. Thanx ahead.

Are you talking about DLNA / UPnP server software? Are you serving from a Mac, a PC, or something else?

I've settled on MinimServer for Windows. Wrote a thread about it. Like ta hear it? Here it go.

That looks cool! Also Java based... I have an old computer going to waste, might install Linux or a BSD flavor on it and give this a go myself (computer is old, so, windows might be hard on it, plus don't want to buy a license).

For high res audio I've been using Audirvana on OSX with a Focusrite ADDA, but, that's not a server..

No, just simple playback software for Hi-Rez 24/96 files in conjunction with iTunes. I've done some research online trying to find different ones but there doesn't seem to be a concise winner when it comes to reliability and convenience of playback. I was just wondering what folks were using and what kind of results.

Oh, you mean a simple media player. I use XBMC more often than anything, but that's because I use my Harmony remote to navigate and select songs (and movies, Internet streams, etc). When I've got the keyboard dragged out, I often use Daum PotPlayer. I'm not fond of PotPlayer's defaults, but it's not too hard to poke around and get things changed the way you like.

Are you looking for a Mac or a PC?

Ya, media player. Sorry, I'm a total techtard. I have a MacBook Pro.

Sometimes I like to use alternativeTo to browse for software recommendations. See this page for some suggestions. VLC is a pretty good Swiss army knife media player.
