My neighbor {well 3 houses away which in my neighborhood is almost a mile, lol} is calledme a few minutes ago to ask me what he should sell his 2 channel rig for {maybe partially to see if I was interested in being the buyer}, he does't know what to ask and the gear is a little over my head as far as resale values, all very well taken care of and not old at all...

Its an integrated amp MA7000 and a pair of Thiel 3.7's, it sounds really good, I have listened to this system a bunch of times, he had it setup a little weird, everything ran through his HT and this was in a separate room, just the amp and speakers as a zone two...

I'm thinking it has to be worth $10,000, he is home for the holiday weekend and made an appointment at a local-ish hi-fi store for Tuesday morning to see if they are interested in trading for something new....

What do you think its worth, I told him I would rade him my evo40 2.2 system :D, but he wasn't interested :(

What's not old? A year? The 3.7's IIRC originally retailed for $10K before a price hike of about $3K and then another of about $1K (I think I read that somewhere) so the age can get important. How old is the MA7000?

I'm thinking, without knowing age, he should probably be asking ~$7-8000 for the speakers and maybe $5-6000 for the integrated. He might not get it, but those are pretty good starting points for 2-3 year old gear.

I want to say he got the amp 18 month ago and the speakers shortly after...

Then maybe even a little more for both. There's a few listings for the 3.7's selling for ~$7500 with them a couple years old, so depending on the market or ebay he might be able to get ~$8000+ for them. These are the $14000 3.7's right?

As for the Mcintosh MA7000, you usually see them come up for sale for like $4-6000 on audiogon and ebay for used ones. He should be able to get somewhere in there if he's willing to wait for the right buyer.

I am almost sure he paid $16,000 for the 3.7's but that is probably including tax... He bought them in taxachusets after all {thats massachusets, but with "tax" in the front}. The amp he bought really cheap because a mcintosh cd player he had gave him a ton of trouble so they made good on the integrated, somewhere in the $7K neighborhood... When we were talking earlier his wife called mine and now they are coming over for dinner, so I will let him know what to expect.. I guess me getting them for 10K is out of the question... :(

well its 1030 he and his wife just left and as you can see I still have my evo's, lol... He is going to trade them in for a pair of sonus books and a single sub, not sure which one probably a rel, he's giving up the amp and using another one he has had for years.... he actually read this post when i showed it to him and said I could have them for 9k if i wanted them, but I honestly don't get caught up in the "name game" I know my 2.2 system sounds better {to me} and it was only a few thousand dollars, sierra towers a pr of uls15s, an xsp1, and pair of emo mono blocks is only $7k and sounds more too my liking.... its all in what you like, we spent a few hours listening to music tonight in my front parlor and he said he admitted he enjoyed my system more than his, but in all fairness, he kind of bought them speakers after listening for 15 minutes, in a tiny room sitting 5 ft from them, an investment like that i would have them come and set them up for a week to see how i liked them in my room with my music.. He kind of just figured he bought his ht there and enjoyed that so why not the music system, problem is ht and music are super different, I am not at all critical of ht, and music I am nothing but... i love my ht setup--- for ht, for music, it is not ideal, the subs aren't as dialed and they are too aggressive and loose, the 340s are great ht speakers, but nothing to look at {although they do sound warm and accurate enough for music} the placement is not as good as it could be because its a room we live in, my music rooms are pretty much that, for music...

but anyway he is going to trade them in for a $15 set of bookshelf speakers and a sub, not sure what they are going to give him but he bought them there so he should do fine...
