What recordings do you want to see released on cd?

On the rock/pop side, I'd really like to see some more historical mono releases. Some good ones include Hendrix's first two albums, The Doors first album, The Beatles Magical Mystery Tour and Sgt. Pepper's, and Dylans Blonde on Blonde. Some of these monos have very different mixes than the stereo versions. John Lennon once said that you really haven't heard Sgt. Pepper's until you hear it in mono. On the mono version of The Doors first, Jim Morrison can be heard murmuring the F-word a few times during The End, which was buried in the stereo mix. Some of these have been released on Lp, by audiophile labels and on expensive and hard to find imports, but when is someone going to get the bright idea to release them on cd, and make it affordable! On the classical side, I'd like to see Honegger's Christmas Cantata/Symphony For Strings by Ernest Ansermet on the London/Decca label reissued on cd. I used to have the Lp, which I mistakenly got rid of, and haven't been able to find since. There are only two recordings of Honegger's Christmas Cantata that I know of on cd in existence, and one is out of print!

Back in my vinyl day, I had quite a few Nonsuch recording, in particular they did great finding wonderful, but obscure chamber orchestras and recording Baroque music, especially Bach. Incredible recordings. In particular, I had a four record set of Bach's complete Harpsichord concerto's that was a treasure. The company seems defunct, but I wonder what happened to their master tapes. They also had an 'Explorer' series that had really fine world music, far before world music was trendy. I had a record of Bulgarian music that was great fun.

Also, I had Carl Richter's Mass in B minor, and his Art of the Fugue on Archive. He might well have been the greatest Bach interpreter of the 20th Century, and I don't know that any of his work has made it to CD.

The ENTIRE Beatle Catalog, including the solo releases.

They blew it, BIG TIME, the first time they did it, going all the way to prevaricate about the existence of the stereo versions.

There is no reason for them to do it right this time, but let's hope that when they go to the format they decide to go to, it's done properly, somewhere along the lines of how the early Rolling Stones catalog was remastered. As little diddling as possible and, where applicable, US and UK versions.

I agree with your comments about the Honegger re-release. It is the best performance I have ever heard of that work... If you hear of such a decision, please somehow let me know!
