What receiver is right for me?

I was previously using a very inexpensive 4 input switch to accomodate all my connections. It just died on me (lots of static) and so I'm interested in picking up a nice receiver since I anticipate I'm going to need one eventually anyway. I need help determining what receiver I should get.

My current setup:

- 27 inch Zenith TV with Composite connection
- Tivo
- Panasonic DVD player
- Digital Cable Box
- Gamecube
- Xbox

Before my switch died I was running composite connections from the Gamecube, Xbox, DVD and Tivo to the switch inputs and a composite connection from the switch output to the Television.

I'm anticipating I will replace the TV with an HDTV in the future (probably end of the year) and also dumping the DVD player for a PS3 (November) so I want a receiver that will work with HD and also Blueray. I'll be getting a 7.1 speaker system as well when I can fit that into my budget.

The receiver is top priority for me right now over the above mentioned items because I want switch functionality without any static. Right now I can only use my Tivo (which I've hooked up directly).

The Denon 2807 http://usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/3038.asp looks like it would be suitable (I also have an ipod) but will it accomodate HDTV and Blueray (it appears to be HDMI compliant but is that even necessary?)

Is this receiver more than what I need? Are there less expensive options available with similar functionality? Any suggestions as to what would suit my needs would be great.

Edit: I should also note I'm in an apartment and have a nice relationship with my neighbors. I'd like to keep it that way.

check out Yamaha receiver choices in your price range. Yamahas are generally cheaper than denon, if you compare the bells and whistles each unit has.

denon is famous for having a great amp section
while yamaha is famous for having the latest features earlier than everyone else.

No, you don't need HDMI on your receiver. If you get a new TV and DVD or bluray player then you can connect directly from the source to the TV. You can also get a switch box to handle several HDMI sources.
For a better price check out the Yamaha RX-V2500 and Denon 3805 in the $6-700 price range. You can even find referbished Yamaha's for <$500.
