Which artist/album do you take to demo new speakers. My favorite is Robbie Robertson, Somewhere down the crazy river. And Kings of Leon.

Its good that you know this music intimately because you then establish a baseline at how close your speakers are getting to the real thing. But its also important to bring a variety of music because you'll get a bette picture for teh speakers sonic performance. For exmaple, I'll bring Tchaiskovsky Violin COncerote in D with me as this is a real acid test for tweeters. If the speakers your auditioning can play this piece well loudly without being strident or harsh, then you know the speakers have a good tweete. Similiarily to music with alot of stuff going on like a symphony orchestra under full boil or some of Dave Matthews stuff whihc has a large miriad of instuments going at the same time. If you can pick out each instrument clearly, the the speakers are able to resolve iny detail in the music. You get the idea now... :)

I'll always have at least one cd that is " a capella", or voices only.

We are extremely familiar, and therefore very discerning, with the reproduction of human voices. *You will much more easily notice if a voice sounded inaccurate, than you would with nearly any other instrument.

If they can't do that right, move on to the next candidate.

Yeah Robbie music has all kinds of instruments in it so that why I take that with me. I never thought of Dave Matthews though I'll have to give that a try.

I think one of the hardest instruements to reproduce is the piano. If a speaker can reproduce the sound accurately..your onto something good.
