what kind of receiver do i need ?

I tried to find out where you are located because when I checked the Future Shop stock for the RC-70 I found one available in a Markham store for $1299. That is the lowest advertized price I have seen in Canada for that speaker. If there is in fact one left there I am quite sure you can offer them $999 or less if it is a floor demo. Many Paradigm supporters may not agree but I can tell you the RC-70 is in the same class as the more popular Studio 100. At one time, it was listed for $2,499 that is equal or higher (timing dependent) than that listed for the Studio 100 of the same vintage. It also sounds very close to that of the Energy flag ship Veritas speakers. Energy is now owned by Klipsch and they may not be too keen to continue R&D along the original Energy path. I think the RC-70 could be last of the original reference blood line so if you like their speakers this is probably your chance to acquire a pair of their near flag ship speakers for cheap (relatively speaking).

The RC-70 may not sound the best with a cheap AVR but for two channel listening, it should sound reasonably well. For 5.1, it should be quite decent when aided by a sub. Again, if you can pick a pair up for under 1K it is money well spent and probably future proof if you are not a never satified and crazy audiophile like some of us here are.

I knew you meant CF-70 but I wanted you to know there was a good deal for the RC-70. Anyway if you are limited by your budget then of course the CF-70 is much more affordable.

The CF-70 has good sensitivity figures so something like a Pioneer VSX-1025 ($449.99) or the lower cost Denon AVR-1312 ($249.99) or the Denon AVR-791 ($379.99) can do the job for you if you room is not too large and you don't push them hard.

The Sony and the Yamaha are a couple of lbs lighter. I think the 1312 may actually get you more real world output. The CF-70 does dip to 4 ohms so if you go with the little Yammy make sure you go easy on the volume. The 791 is a good idea but unfortunately it still costs much more than the Sony and the Yammy 371.

That's a good price for sure but I like the heavier Pioneer more. The 1025 may have more juice for his big towers, in 2 channel applications.

Either one would do fine, a few extra watts more (if either unit has more) will not make any noticable difference IMO. If power is a concern though, the yamaha has full pre-outs so its easy to add some 200-300 watt amps to get mind blowing power to any speakers without having to buy a new receiver.

I followed the link you provided to the Bestbuy site and it showed 8.5 kg. Anyway I know FS and BB do not always provide accurate info so I took a look of their manuals and you are quite right about the weight.

Actually neither one has provided the unpacked weight but it is reasonable to assume the HTR-6063 may be slightly heavier. Since it has a full set of preouts, it is a great buy at $399.99. I now recommend the Yamaha over the Pioneer.

I've been mislead by retail sites (or their sales poeple for that matter) so many times I've lost track. Two days ago my friend was at a "respectable" audio/video store here with the salesman trying to tell him the HTR series is equivalent to a HTIB and that he should buy their RXV series for $100 more. So after a quick (but pointless) talk on the phone with the salesman showing him online that all the specs (and look) are identical, he ends with, "whatever, just buy what you want then" and passes the phone back to my friend. Guess they didn't want to price match!
