My car now burns oil and the check engine light has been on for the last two years. That particular condition is because the O2 sensors are bad. The first time I enquired about them they were supposedly $20 apiece and I need 4 of them - now they are $500 apiece???? I decided the hell with it. Previously the check engine light would flash code 52 which meant that the 'backup battery supply' for the airbags is bad. I opted to have that fixed in the name of safety. I also had to pay about $1200 to have the 'idle control valve' replaced. Gone are the days when you can adjust the idle with a screwdriver. This car actually doesn't look bad at all but deep down it is a POS. The funny thing is that I could pay cash for a new car without batting an eye - and yet I have not and will not until I am good and ready. It's kind of my badge of honor and I take ribbing about it from friends and colleagues.

He kept it for one year. In that year it went into the shop 8 times for various mechanical problems (one being coolant leakage). He finally got fed up with it and bought an Accord. He hasn't had a single issue since.

My parents just bought an XR [07 as well], and considering how much it costs, there's really nothing not to like I drive a 2002 Jeep Liberty. I'm quite lucky to have such a nice car at my age, although I really don't like SUVs or automatic transmissions... but I'm not complaining
