What is wrong here?

I've never owned those speakers, but I'm really just skeptical based on Gene's review of them... he seems to have pumped plenty of power into them without running into distortion type issues (IE the part where he used his monster denon receiver because the 40wpc tube wasn't cutting it in his huge 6000cu ft theater room, it sure didn't sound like the speakers don't love power).

The USP-1 certainly isn't something I'd think of as clipping the pre-outs. That's more or less something I'd reserve for entry level receivers with pre-outs just dumped in for a few extra sales.

On an unrelated side note, I wonder how easy it would be to do a tweeter swap on this speaker with the original 41-SE Vifa tweeter, the same review seemed to suggest that the crossover used is identical.

I wonder if there might be a defect, in the crossover of that one speaker.
I just re-read Gene's review and you are right. I'll swap speakers and see if I can get the the other speaker to exhibit the same issue (or if it follows the speaker to the left side).

GranteedEV,
I don't follow, what is your idea behind swapping out the tweeter? To determine if the problem is the tweeter or upstream?

oh no the tweeter swap had nothing to do with the topic at hand.. it's just i was reading through gene's review and got kind of curious to see how the speaker sounds with its "original" more expensive tweeter... i just got sidetracked.

That is not the same tweeter as in the RBH 61LSE is it?
I suspect the 61LSE Status Acoustics tweeter is a higher quality driver in many ways, but they definitely improved the sound with the one in the EMP 41B. When I compared the 61LSE against the Paradigm Studio 20, the Al tweet of the 20 had better extension and the 61LSE had better clarity. The EMP 41B tweeter manages to do both.

Well from what I understand the 61-SE/R uses the scanspeak 9500 and the 61-SE uses the Vifa d27...
