I recently got a Yamaha RXV 663 for $360. Now my challenge starts in selecting the sexy speakers :) for my home theatre system. I hope some one on this forums would have already got a good speakers combination with yamaha RXV 663. My intrest of usage in Movies/Music is 40/60.. My choice of combination for speakers is 1 center, 2 floor speaker - tower model, 2/4 book shelf, and 1 sub woofer. Suggest with the your thoughts.

Hi, Aaryan, and welcome to the forum!

Congratulations on your new receiver. What is your budget for the speakers? The general advice is to go and listen to speakers. You'll also want to make sure that your receiver can drive the speakers sufficiently. You'll want to make sure that the receiver is rated for the impedance of the speakers that you are considering. You'll also want to consider the sensitivity of the speakers - the higher the value, the louder a speaker will play at any given power level (so, it takes less power to play loud).

Several people here will suggest that you pick your speakers first and then pick a receiver that will drive them. That's good advice, but now that you have the receiver, you should just consider the things mentioned above when shopping for speakers.

I'd say spend some time listening to a wide range of speakers. Even speakers that are way outside your price range. You want to hear what "good" sounds like.

As part of your research, be sure to include listening to live music. Not necessarily going to arena rock concerts (about the worst venues in the world to hear live music performed are large arenas). Check out your local symphony, especially if you dig that kind of music. Hit a local club whether it's to hear a C&W garage band, some punk band, or even a jazz combo at a local brew pub. You need to know what the real thing sounds like, and think about what it is about that live music sound you like.

Then listen for that sound in the speakers you listen to. Whether they're a pair of $40,000 B&W Nautilus or a $300 pair of Infinity at your local Best Buy. Ideally, you'll listen to them in your listening room. If the place won't let you demo them at home, you might want to consider someplace else. All the boutique stores in my neighborhood will send speakers home with you for the weekend, but it generally demands an investment of your time listening at their places first before they take you seriously enough.

So, know what it is you like about stuff that sounds good. What characteristics does it possess? Listen to lots of different types of music. Then listen for speakers that reproduce the sounds you like the best.

If you want a prebuilt speaker then get 2 pairs of Behringer 2030s

That's around 300.

Then Build your own subwoofer. If you aren't capable. There are folks who will assemble one for you. I suggest you pick up a pair of 12.1 Infinity Perfect subs(They ebay from 20 to 100) and put them in the box on the DIY portion of the site.

Pick up an EP1500 to power them on ebay.

That would be a very nice system

If you want to DIY all the way around Madisound has a nice kit.
