Definitely a cool thread...
Saw Kelly Joe Phelps play a taco bar called Acapulco Golds before he made the cover of Guitar Player Magazine.
Saw Thin Lizzy's Jailbreak tour open for Queen in 1977. Freddie still had long hair and black nails. And Phil Lynott was... alive and awesome.
Saw Rush for less than $2 back in '76. They always cost more after that. Whatever.
Michael Hedges with Michael Manring from the second row of a little church.
Rundgren's Nearly Human tour was absolutely stunning.
The Floyd Animals tour. Last real tour with Roger. I'm damaged now.
And Dweezil's tribute to his father, the first Zappa Plays Zappa tour was boggling. You can catch part of the Portland Show on the DVD.
1977 Journey opening for Emerson Lake and Palmer's Works Tour. I was a big fan of both. Halfway thru their set Roleigh introduces some new singer guy with a big nose, "Please welcome our newest member, Steve Perry" WTF? That's not Journey! Turns out it was.
My starstruck story was the first time I ever saw Heart. The boys in the band opened up the set with a jam, and then out walks Nancy in a skin-tight leather jump-suit, with stilettos and a blonde Flying-V with heart-shaped pickups. OMG! I was ready to quit my job and follow her anywhere.
And I'm insanely jealous that Exit caught the Lamb Lies Down tour.
