What is "Double Run" or "Single Run" speaker cable...

What do they mean by "double run" speaker cables. I've seen this mention on a number of sites. Also, the "single run" on Signal Cables site also looks like a double run of a certain gauge wire.

Also, how do they determine what guage it is if say they use two runs of 10, 12, or 14 guage wire?

Thanks,

Double Run means biwiring. A waste of money. No harm, but likely no good.

To find the equivalent gauge when using parallel runs, determine the total area of the cables and find the gauge that corresponds to that area. For example, 14 gauge has an area of 2 square mm. Two runs of 14 gauge amounts to 4 square mm of total conductor area. The standard wire gauge closest to 4 square mm (without going under) is 10 gauge, at about 5 square mm. Use the AWG tables to find cable areas.

Actually, you can 'double run' and not by-wire ;)
You are doubling up on the cable to decrease resistance.
