I have a Yamaha rx-v667. Is Cinema DSP surround sound?
On Yamaha receivers it's a catch-all phrase that refers to their various proprietary DSP (digital signal processing) modes like Sci-Fi, Hall, Action, etc. Most companies offer their own home grown algorithms; eg. Onkyo calls its dsp modes 'Onkyo original DSP'. Most of them run stand-alone but I believe Yamaha lets you layer them on top of standard surround modes like Dolby Digital in some cases.

What is straight decoding?
Yamaha's term for using the surround decoder that matches the format. If 'straight' is on and the disc is encoded in Dolby Digital or DTS it will use the DD and DTS decoder respectively. It allows you to layer one of the cinema dsp modes on top of the standard surround formats which is why they have this separate setting to tell it to use the normal decoder.

what is surround decoder?
An algorithm that decodes a surround format and separates the encoded audio into its repsective channels. On the disc it is all one bitstream (serial order of bits) and encoded to save space and the decoder unpacks it and sends the right sounds to the right channels.

How do i listen to 5.1 DTS HD.
If its the default format on the disc (rarely) and the receiver is in straight mode it will automatically choose the DTS decoder because that is the format the audio is in. Usually DD is the default so if the disc also has a DTS soundtrack you need to select DTS from the DVD menu.
