What is causing my image to do this?

If anyone could please help me to find out what my problem is with my picture.

The compenents I have are in my signature and I am connecting my DVD player to my TV via compenent cables.

I dont under stand I have used the AVIA disc to set my tv up and I understand that from the factory it is set up to look like crap. Is there some control that I am missing?

My problem I have notice occurs on several DVD's it is usually in the back ground in darker images the image becomes very diffused and fuzzy. In the first image I am talking about the fuzz all around the shark.

The two images are a little fuzzy but you can see what I am talking about int he image with the sharks from finding nemo on the first. The image is not fuzzy that is form me pausing and my camera does auto focus when flash is turned off.

I am guessing it is either my dvd player or my connection. Because my tv has an image stored somewhere in it that is in the color controlls and it is perfect sharp bright detailed everything when I test it.

My dvd player has a DVI connector on it and my tv has HDMI would a DVI to HDMI cable be worth trying?

Also when on component I cannot change tint/hue does that have anything to do with it?

Samsung is pretty well known for not doing a great job with image handling. The DVD player I would definitely hook up via HDMI/DVI to try to improve image quality, but even then, it simply is not a stellar DVD player with top notch reviews - nor is the display. The problem is simply that Samsung scalers tend not to be the best.

The cheapest solution would be to use a decent DVD player - something along the lines of the Panasonic S77 which is an excellent value for the money and should show a marked improvement if you want to be critical of your viewing experience.

I always look to Samsung for those who just want a great price and don't plan to be critical. If you want the best possible image, then return the Samsung gear, it just won't deliver the way that some other products can.

If you are interested in great picture, I would strongly recommend an ISF calibrator who has calibrated you brand of displays as he would know how to get into factory settings, has the proper instruments, etc. I think the cost would be worth it. You could also ask him questions first and perhaps about your possible ringing issues? Or, over saturation, or lack of proper focus?

There is a whole world in tuning beyond the test DVDs most use here. Maybe, I should also mention another forum, AVS, Audio, Video Science. There should be a section there to cover your type of displays and ask questions. There guys go into it so deeply that you'd think they are designing it.

I would try your DVD player on someone elses display or try a different DVD on your display to try to pinpoint exactly what is contributing to poor picture quality.

It could be a bad input on either of the components. Try this first and get back with us.
