What is a powered monitor?

computer is my source and when looking for dacs do l have to match the ohms or can l just pick any speaker and any dac?

With my experience pretty much any dac/active monitor should work together as long as they have the needed connections. As outputs from different dacs vary and same goes with the active monitor inputs.

For headphone usage Objective2 + ODAC is all you will ever need. Some versions of this dac/amp combo also offer RCA out puts for active monitors.

Already replied for that in your another topic. I don't know Australian prices but what I would look at would be Behringer Truth B2030A, B2031A or B3031A. From cheapest to more expensive, any of those would work well in your situation.
