What is a PDP-4271HD?

I'd like to get a 42" HDTV for a room in my house. I went to BB and looked at various different brands and technologies and thought the Pioneer plasma looked the best to me.

Now that I'm home, I tried to find info on the model (PDP-4271HD), but there is no information, even on Pioneer's site. The specs seem different than the one reviewed here, so I doubt it's repackaged with a different model.

Tomorrow, I'll try and visit Ultimate Electronics and view the 43" versions, but I'd like to know what's up with that BB model. Anyone have any info?

Thanks for the help.

Well I did some more searching (a different/"better"? search engine) and found some info on that model. It seems to be a new model just released in the last month. Odd that the Pioneer web site did not have any information regarding it though.

I'm still going to visit UE and see the 43" model.

Manufacturers' websites are not as current as you'd think they would be. I found this out 2 years ago with Mitsubishi. Same situation, model in store, not on website. Did a search on Pioneer's site and the manual is available for that model.

4271 is the BB version of the new Pioneer 4270. It's basically the same unit except I believe the BB model used to come with a wall mount while the 4270 came with a table top stand (not sure if that is true anymore). Another reason for the difference in model number is so they don't have to price match. The 43" is the 6th Gen panel. For the the 7th Gen, Pioneer changed from a 43" panel to a 42" panel. The 50" size stayed the same.

The 0 to 1 thing is a Best Buy (BB) thing

I noted the 6th gen Pioneer 43 inch at BB was 4361 and the new 7th generation 42 inch is 4271... Likewise the 7th gen 50 inch was 5071...The problem I have is whether they have left some things off even though they are right at the Pioneer website prices.. Also when you order parts in the future is this an issue.

I went to BB to buy something (money in hand) and the salesman was so distracted selling me HDMI cables at $149, power centers at $300 and in the end swore by the Samsung.. I went home and the Samsung 42 in plasma got bad writeups. I went back and the same sales-kid was there and he said his customers liked the Samsung...

This experience cooled me off on buying the Pioneer from them but they may be the only act in town.....

Is it worth buying the extra

I had the same experiance at Best Buy with regard to the sales guy trying to sell me a new Hdmi cord and some sort of electric noise reducer? It was fairly expensive. Is it worth buying this stuff. I turned it down

I just bought the pioneer PDP-4271 and have it hooked up to an Direct TV HD-DVR.

I don't have a DVD player, though I'm considering purchasing one, any suggestions on that. If I do buy a new DVD player should i buy a nice HDMI cord?
