What have I got with this FR 940 MK II, Advent 430s?

I have a Philips FR 940 MK II that was given to me. It doesn't work, but, I did get a single grrrp out of it when I hooked it up. I also was given an Advent 430s with one channel working. No manuals with either, but, I do own a Philips FR 920 already.

I've played around with the 920 driving, amongst other speakers, Advent loudspeakers (25 anniversary ed.), AR4's (not impressive output), AR2a's (same), and some old Martins 8ohm speakers that I can only describe as having two 8" woofers, and two tweeters (very good). I was happy with the Advents and the Martins.

Now, I took these two freebee amps with me to the Philippines, where the labor to repair them is a flat 250 pesos ($5.00) plus parts, if successful, and no charge if not. The Advent 430s seems to be close to fixed already, when the IC comes in that nees to be replaced. For the Philips, I promised double for the labor if they can find the problem(s) and make the repairs. Honestly, I know that that fee is almost what a skilled carpenter here will make after working two full days. The repair shop is motivated and I know that the people here are extremely resourceful. The FR 940 should likely be brought back to or close to original condition, or at least functional somehow.

What can I drive with this unit? I see that at the speaker hook-ups 8ohms is listed for the front and side speakers, and 4ohms for the rear. That doesn't really make much sense to me. Here in the Philippines I have a pair of Wharfdale diamonds, which are 6ohm, and I think it would probably make a lot more sense to drive those speakers with the Philips than the JVC bookshelf unit I have, which has an output of 50 Watts for the 6ohm speakers that came with it.

By the way, I brought a pair of Minimus for the Advent to drive.

Any thoughts for me? I'd love to hear what some of you are thinking now . . . .
