This is a bit embarassing. I have 50" Fujitsu Plasma, a set of Jamo E855 speakers (6), and absolutely no idea what to put in between them...If anyone can recommend a DVD player, amp, whatever, to suit, I'd really appreciate it. I'm looking for a good inhome movie experience, I'm not an AV nut (maybe you can tell), and can spend a bit more to finish the system.
Any help greatly appreciated.

How many dollars does "a bit more" translate into?

You need a receiver and a dvd player. Which ones depends on what you like, what features you want, and how much cash you are wiling to spend.

Read through the following receiver buying guide to help give yourself a better understanding as to what you may want to look for regarding receivers, these folks also give some good advice on DVD players as well.

Reciever Buying Guide

Take your time and try to research as much information as you can via the internet, it will help tremendously...and good luck!

There's hundreds of A/V receivers our there. We can help you with "best bang for the buck" if you give us a budget.

As far as a dvd player, get one that upconverts if your budget allows. The Neuneo players are excellent for picture quality and features. Oppo Digital also is well known for their feature-value benefits.

You've got a great Plama, so I woudn't skimp on either of these purchases.

Does your plasma have an HDMI input? If so, I'd suggest looking into a receiver that has HDMI inputs. The Denon 3806, Yamaha 1600 and 2600 units should also. They are excellent A/V receivers for the price.

Funny you should recommend that one Buck. Here is what the guy said to me after I sold him my NeuNeo 2081 to upgrade to the 2085
Brian,

Got the player and cord today. Just watched my first
1080i movie. Looks as good, maybe a bit better than my
home theater PC (HTPC set for 720P), but cheaper and I
don't have to wait for the long boot time. Most likely
going to sell the HTPC amd maybe make a few bucks...

Anyway, thanks for the transaction

John
Anyhow, I spoke with him. His HTPC was about 600.00 and he said the 2081 is equal or even better than the dedicated HTPC.

I now have the 2085, and I can say its very close to the 2081. Better in some ways, not in others. I really don't like the menu system (still getting use to it) But as far as picture quality-It is perfect....

A lot of the big box stores...

...are making it very easy to spend money there.

I use 6th Avenue and PC Richards in our area for a lot of our audio/video/computer shopping when they have what I want (i.e, Denon 2802 for $395 two years ago, Toshiba 27A34 for $188 last fall, Compaq Laptop two months ago for $529 with free printer and carry case) and, by using their in-house credit card, we get up to 12 months to pay it off with no interest.

If you've got any fiscal responsibility in your programming at all, that's the same as cash! Ya can't beat that with a stick!
