What crossover should I use?

I'm pretty lost when it comes to anything electronic. Give me something with a carb and a set of points and I can get it to run. My problem is that several years ago I blew the crossovers out of a pair of Infinity rs5's. I packed them away thinking they were gone for good only to recently discover that the drivers all work. It's the crossovers that are fried. (Harmon/Kardon AVR5 and a pair of Teac EQA10 equalizers and had the volume cranked waaaaay up while listening to Bruce Hornsby) Naturally, crossovers are NLA from Infinity. I know of a guy that will build a set for half of what the speakers cost new. That's not happenin'. Infinity only wanted $33.00 ea. for them when available so I can't see spending ten times that now. I'v seen crossovers advertised for as low as $5.00, but you get what you pay for.I've also seen them going for upwards of $100.00. It's got to reach a point where the crossovers
will be wasted on the speakers. Kind of like putting Z-rated Michelins on a '67 VW bug. So can somebody tell me what crossover to get? I'd like to resurrect these speakers but I don't even know what the crossover frequency was supposed to be.

Which RS5?

RS5 (1980's) CS940025
RS5 (1990's) RS5BLK
RS5 KAPPA CS985500

What's the difference between them? And would it really matter for this speaker?

Thanks! I'll give them a try. I'd like to find a crossover that's at least equal to Infinity specs. A little upgrade in quality wouldn't hurt.

Give the thread some time. There are many DIY guys here with years of experience with speaker building.

I can't find the point for the speakers, but someone will know.

Another thought: Can anyone supply a schematic for this crossover? I have an electronic supply store here that can probably provide what I need to repair them if I can find out the values of the destroyed parts.

You can't use a generic crossover. You have to design a crossover fro the drivers involved.

If you can get the schematic I will build you the crossovers for the component cost and a little for time.

Thanks! I will!! As soon as I can find a schematic. 911manuals.com lists a schematic for an rs5, but it's a 3-way with pots for midrange and tweeter. Mine is a 2-way with no pots. I've been looking for a couple of weeks now with no success. I don't suppose Harman can help. but I'll give them a try.
