Behringer T1951 "tube equalizer"
Actually it hasn't arrived yet from Markertek, but it's shipped.
This thing isn't really a "tube equalizer" because it doesn't equalized using tubes. The equalization part is stereo four-band parametric equalizer no doubt using surface-mount ICs; (hello
that's how Behringer can make their stuff so cheaply). However the signal passes though a pair of tubes.
Unlike the famous tube equipment makers, Behringer is up-front about the fact that the "warm" sound of tubes comes 2nd order harmonic distortion. The unique ciruit of the T1951 permits small, user controlled amounts of distortion into the signal -- dial up warm on demand.
Why did I buy such a whacky device? Easy: because (1) I want to experiment with an equalizer, (2) I wanted to experiment with a "tube input buffer"
a la Musical Fidelity X-10v3 or Decware ZBOX, and (3) finally but not least, I'm a cheapskate. Other Behringer equalizers are $80 or more and the MF or Decware are $400; the T1951 is $130 and you get both
