Wharfedale Diamond 10.5 sound problem

Hi,

I am auditioning some Wharfedale Diamond 10.5s before buying them from my cousin for my bedroom system. I hooked them up to my Denon AVR 1802 and in a word they sound HORRIBLE. The sound coming from them is hollow and tinny, not much better than an old transistor radio quite frankly. The speaker impedance for my receiver is 6 - 16 ohms and the Wharfedale's are 6 ohm speakers, so I'm not sure what the issue could be.

I have some Mirage Omni 60s that sound fine with the same receiver and my cousin was/is driving the Wharfedales at his house with a Yamaha amp.

Any ideas or solutions?

Thanks in advance to all who respond.

They shouldn't be hard to drive for testing purposes and medium volume levels.

Do they sound like this at your cousins?

They sound quite nice at my cousin's. He's driving them with an integrated amp. Not sure why they sound so different in my house.

Dunno, it could be room interaction, placement issues or maybe you just don't like those Wharfies when comparing them to what you already have. That happens.

Don't buy 'em.

I believe that model has dual binding posts for bi-wiring. Are the connectors between the high and low binding posts connected? If you are only getting half the crossover that could be the issue.
