Westinghouse Plasma

I've gone into dozens of Best Buys, Circuit City's and the like. I always walk through the tv's without looking at the brands to try to make an objective comparison of picture quality. I almost always pick out the Westinghouse as the picture I like best. From reading this forum, I've learned that the stores rarely setup the tv's for best results, that they will set the tv's that make them the most money better than the others, and that the cheaper tv's have poor maintenance once the warranty has expired. So, I hadn't considered the Westinghouse because it was usually one of the cheaper models.

Recently, I came across a review from a couple of years ago by one of the admins on this site that praised the Westinghouse. So, I got to figuring (could be dangerous) that if folks here thought well of Westinghouse, and my eyes seemed to like Westinghouse the best, maybe I should consider this brand as a good "value" for me.

I'm looking for a 42"er. Anything I should know? By the way, my second choice was the Best Buy store brand Insignia, so my tastes are, probably, somewhat questionable.

Any help would be appreciated.

most displays are in torch mode to get consumer attention, and even changing the settings in a well lit store doesnt show what the picture would look like under normal conditions. The following is in regards to their cs....

Westinghouse

If the set is purchased from Best Buy it must be returned to the store for warranty service regardless of the size of the TV, according to the Westinghouse customer service department. If purchased elsewhere, Westinghouse customer service must be called to determine if the set is in need of factory service. Westinghouse will issue a return authorization if they determine factory services is needed and it will pay the freight both ways if the TV was purchased within the last 90 days. From 90 days to the end of the one-year warranty, the consumer must pay the return freight and supply the original packaging or a suitable equivalent. Westinghouse does not sell replacement cartons and packing. Out of warranty service is available locally in select markets according to its customer service department. If there is no local factory authorized servicer in your area, the set owner must pay the freight both ways and the cost or repair parts and labor, which will be determined after Westinghouse receives and examines the malfunctioning television.

I like my 32" Westinghouse LCD quite well. It's a great bargain for the display performance it has. My particular Westinghouse doesn't have very good scaling abilities, so it needs to be fed with a solid upscaled or HD source to really shine. This may or may not reflect throughout other Westinghouse televisions. I know some lower end TV companies, such as Olevia, will at times put higher end scalers and other processing features into their televisions than their typical runs.
