Weird Dolby TrueHD question

Last night I was watching Spiderman 2 on Blu-ray. I had selected the Dolby TrueHD audio track, but according to my PS 3's display, it was outputting the 640 kbps Dolby Digital track. I'm pretty sure that my 661 doesn't decode True HD and I don't think the PS 3 does either. The weird thing is, that I happened to have the display open and when I would fast-forward, the display changed to Dolby TrueHD. So for some reason, the PS 3 either can decode Dolby TrueHD when it fast-forwards, or it just thinks it can decode TrueHD.

Does anyone know why this would be?

Also, my HD-A3 is supposed to be able to output Dolby TrueHD, but I can't really be sure as the display doesn't show you the bitrate of the audio like the PS 3 does. The PS 3 is MUCH more user-friendly than the A3.

That is strange. Damn computers.:D
My understanding is that PS3 can decode TrueHD & DD+ as long as you have all the firmware upgrades.

I have the latest version of firmware. I wonder if I have some setting wrong in the PS 3?

Make sure the PS3 is set to output PCM instead of Bitstream through the HDMI out.
I'll check that tonight.

By the way, I just called the Best Buy where I got my A3 and they said I could come in and get my extra movie. I wonder if they'll let me get Ratatouille?

Thanks again Gus.

Yes, with all this complexity the average household will be totally lost and hesitant to upgrade:eek:
Yeah, I'm scared of Windows Vista!
They sent me a free Windows Vista upgrade, and I am too scared to install.:D
I love HD player firmwares, though. I upgrade every chance I get.

Fun movie. Picked up the SD version this AM, no Blu-Ray in my house yet. :(
I picked it on Blu-ray during lunch. Fry's had it on sale for 20 bucks.
I'll check that tonight.

You guys are getting this movie for your kids, right?:D

I'm always embarrassed to let anyone know I actually bought a cartoon without saying, "Well, they're for my 2 little daughters".:D

So is this cartoon a MUST-HAVE? I was going to buy at Wal-Mart.

Hell no, they're for me!!! I love Pixar movies. Although I didn't really like Cars. I'm really into anime too.

Funny, I was just thinking to myself the other day, "Am I ever gonna grow out of watching cartoons?" I don't think so. :D

So I switched the HDMI audio output on my PS 3 to PCM. Ta-da!!! Dolby TrueHD works now. Thanks again Gus.

By the way, Best Buy didn't let me get Ratatouille as my free disc, so I just bought it and got Batman Begins as my free one.

Ratatouille is one of the best movies of the year. It is probably the best movie I've seen this year so far with Bourne Ultimatum being second.

For my kids, of course.:D
We'll see how good it is.:)

The Incredibles is probably in my top 10 all times movies. Animation has really come into its own in the last few years. Of course, I'm a father and tend to hang out with other fathers and we all have no problems admitting that we like Pixar movies (I agree that Cars was an inferior offering mostly because of the simplistic storyline).

I have to agree; 'The Incredibles' is one of the best movies ever made. I am also a big fan of 'CARS' and about every Disney movie I have seen. We are going to watch 'meet the Robinsons' tonight unless my Ratatouille comes in the mail today.

Alright, let us know how "Meet the Robinsons" is.
If it is a MUST-HAVE, then I will buy from Wal-Mart for my daughters.:D

If Ratatouille is as good as everyone is saying it is, I'll have to check it out. The previews didn't really impress me that much, but I guess I'll check it out anyways, sometimes you just never know.

Good, I still have not bought either BDs yet. They are still sitting pretty at my local Wal-Mart. They had 4 copies of each movie.

I have to agree that Incredibles is one of my favorite movies ever and I share Tom's sentiment regarding the simplistic plotline of Cars. Incredibles was so enjoyable on not just a simplistic kids level, but even parents could identify with some of the issue being presented within. I really hope they come out with a sequel? Tuesday night I picked up both Ratatouille and Meet the Robinsons's on Blu-Ray as "presents" for my little girl's b-day. I hope you guys feedback is accurate on those two!
