Hello.

Does anyone know of a way in which I can determine the wattage of a speaker on which the wattage is not specified?

If there are any instruments that I would need to determine this, please feel free to tell me.

I already have a Multimeter. I don't know if it's safe to use it for that though.

Thank you.

Twexcom, are you asking how to measure the max wattage of a speaker? I don't think that you could do that, outside of putting too much through one - "I guess that was the limit." :)

I've read some posts here that stated that the max rated wattage for a speaker didn't matter all that much, as long as your amp (or receiver) had enough power to not clip. I'll let the speaker gurus chime in on this one, though.

I meant the nominal wattage, and even the max wattage too if you can tell me how.

I don't think that there is a nominal wattage in regards to speakers. Are you wondering what wattage your amp is supplying when you're listening at typical levels?

Just curious, are you actually asking about the nominal impedance (ohms)?

I think he is asking how to determine how many watts the speakers are rated to handle. If this is correct, then telling us the brand or model would greatly help.

Yes, I meant how many watts the speakers are rated to handle.

One of the speakers which I am trying to determine the wattage of is a: Polk Audio GXR69 6" by 9" speaker.

Ahhh, that's what I meant when I asked if you wanted to measure the "max wattage." I wasn't communicating well. Thanks, GR!

Those are car speakers. Not in the spec sheet? Call Polk.

Thank you.

How do I determine the wattage of other speakers myself without google?

I have some other speakers which don't turn up in google and their wattages are not stated, nor their brand names. (labels gone)

Also, what would you say about Polk Audio speakers?

How good are they?

Could you tell me how good they are compared to brands like Pioneer and JBL as well?

you might get a much better response on a car audio forum... not to say we can't help you here, but home audio is the forté of this board.

If you don't have any info who made the speakers, no writing on the magnet other than perhaps a number followed the the Ohm sign, you are pretty much out of luck. But mostly, I doubt they are high power capable, perhaps 10-20 watts?

These other drivers you asked are fine. If they are raw drivers, it should come with a whole slew of parameters for one to determine how to use it in a speaker system, or just hit or miss.

Ok, thank you.

I know what the max wattage of the Polk is, it's 175 watts.

I wanted to find the wattage of other speakers.
