Was my CA S30 an open box?

Now that I think about it, my speakers were packed and held in place with unusual looking styrofoam. The styrofoam looked like it was originally one piece, and someone tore it up haphazardly to fit it around the speakers. The foam had rough and uneven edges all around.

The speakers were wrapped nicely and didn't look used. But just the packaging looked odd. It's unusual to see foam packaging like this. I'm afraid I was sent an open box. Was your Cambridge S30 like this too? Or any other speaker for that matter?

I would also assume that is is open box. A brand new item should never look like that!

You could also contact the manufacturer and ask if that's possible for a new, unopened item from them.

Would you lose total respect for a company that has such a poor quality control?:D

I know I would.

The speakers were fine and looked brand new. The foam packaging is what looked weird to him. It's possible that's how they package their speakers normally.

Also, if he didn't buy directly from the manufacturer, why are you guys suggesting he contact them? Why not contact the store he bought from? What would the manufacturer have to do with a store selling somebody an open box item marked as new?

All 3 of my ATI amps looked and smelled brand new. They were wrapped and double-box like brand new as well. The amps, all the foams, thick plastic wraps, manuals, etc., all looked brand new.

Yet, they were considered B-Stock and sold at a B-stock price.

So if I pay for a brand new price, and it doesn't look brand new to me (suspicious foam, wrapping, etc.), I refuse to pay brand new.

I don't need the manufacturer or store to tell me otherwise.

But that is me.

Some people don't mind something like that, but I do.

When I bought the Denon AVP-A1 from Onecall.com, it also looked like it had been opened. Plastic wraps were not sealed tight. There were some fingerprints/smudges on the LCD. I took some pictures and showed them to Onecall.

So I talked to Onecall and they said the box I got was 100% brand new --- that was how DENON packaged it.

When I talked to Denon, they said, "No way!". Brand new items will look 100% perfectly brand new --- no loose ends, no fingerprints whatsoever!"

So what good did either calls made?

Bottom line, I felt like it was NOT brand new and I returned the item for a full refund.

I bought it through Amazon so I'll let both parties know. It irks me knowing that I might have paid full price for an open box item.

The speakers were wrapped nicely and I didn't see signs of use. Just the foam packaging.

Thanks guys.

In my post, I suggested the option of asking the manufacturer if that type of packaging is possible from them. If not, then the box had been opened.

You are kind of like me. I expect PERFECTION.:D

Especially from Amazon since I have absolute confidence in Amazon!

I would call Amazon customer service and tell them your situation. Perhaps they will even offer you a open-box like-new condition pricing, if you choose.

Otherwise, simply return it to Amazon and get another one.

I love Amazon.:D
