War of the Worlds - Video Problem

Sorry, I do not mean to add to the flood of war of the worlds threads but my problem is technical, not opinionated.

In the first few scenes of the movie, where the wife is dropping off the kids at tom cruises house. The background gets extremely bright and washed out. Their clothing almost seems transparent at times around the sleeves. It happens a few other random times throughout the film, but this is by far the worst. I bough another copy and it soes the same thing, and tried it on some other players as well.
It is the widescreen version of the film.
Is there anything I can do, is it my problem, or is it a problem with the DVD itself. Any help would be great.

You tried different dvd players right? Did you try a different monitor?

That's not your player. That was intentional by the Director. As long as your display is color calibrated correctly, (Avia or DVE) you are fine.

If you own the Minority Report DVD you'll see the same thing there. Speilberg does it a couple of times in Saving Private Ryan too. Its not your equipment.
