hello everyone, new to this site, was researching acoustic suspension speakers and subs an stumbled across this great site, wealth of knowledge here to be sure.
OK to start off I am not replacing the sub, but moving the pro-sub 800 to bedroom theater and adding something with a little more authority than the 8 inch woofer in this model, it uses a sealed cabinet with pressure coupled 8 inch passive radiator rated at 100 watts RMS with brief 300 watt peaks ,which to my surprise did not create a series of standing waves I noticed with an old pair of Polk Audio speakers with passive radiators I had in the 80s, which seemed to muddy the sound stage.I do

question the low end frequency extension being a true 20-hz, however I do not have the instruments to back that up just a hunch on beefing up the specs. My comparison to the prosub 800 is a friends klipsch R-120SW . it boasts 12 inch woofer with a ported design .with 400 watt with digital amp, right away I could hear the difference between the two , the lows were more impressive and had certain presence missing from the pro-sub 800, i think some of its acoustic output is being stifled. it was like night and day, however having said that I am not a fan of Klipsch mass produced speakers, Something along the lines of the Klipsch $499 or thereabouts is where I would like to start, I am aware of the sheer amount of deserving brands making subs is almost endless, i just want to narrow it down to a few good prospects, any help would be highly appreciated

Just to get this part started... what are your room dimensions, LxWxH. And usage: HT, Music, Mixed?

4000'3 is a pretty good size. If you want to do it up proper, I'd suggest looking at the VTF-3 from Hsu, if not the VTF15H... probably best value performer. SVS are highly respected, and you should consider the PB3000 or PB4000, but that's getting up there on your stated budget. The Monoprice Monolith Subs also rate highly, and you might be able to pull off the 12", but the 15" would handle your room.
Now... lets open up this part of the conversation: 20x20x10... I'm not gonna claim to be the expert, but I am already wondering about how any single sub is going to behave in that room. Shady could address this more authoritatively, but as I understand it, those dimensions are going to create a lot of standing waves, which equates to poor bass performance. I'm still learning about that.
I would recommend, though, get the best single sub you can now, and then save to get one more! Multiple subs are great, and will be helpful in your room.

I’m using two HSU VTF2 in a similar size space but even one will be night and day compared to the Def Tech.

Your sub using a passive radiator is not considered sealed but rather ported design wise. Acoustic suspension is not the same thing as sealed either, altho acoustic suspension speakers are sealed.
