hello everyone, new to this site, was researching acoustic suspension speakers and subs an stumbled across this great site, wealth of knowledge here to be sure.
OK to start off I am not replacing the sub, but moving the pro-sub 800 to bedroom theater and adding something with a little more authority than the 8 inch woofer in this model, it uses a sealed cabinet with pressure coupled 8 inch passive radiator rated at 100 watts RMS with brief 300 watt peaks ,which to my surprise did not create a series of standing waves I noticed with an old pair of Polk Audio speakers with passive radiators I had in the 80s, which seemed to muddy the sound stage.I do
question the low end frequency extension being a true 20-hz, however I do not have the instruments to back that up just a hunch on beefing up the specs. My comparison to the prosub 800 is a friends klipsch R-120SW . it boasts 12 inch woofer with a ported design .with 400 watt with digital amp, right away I could hear the difference between the two , the lows were more impressive and had certain presence missing from the pro-sub 800, i think some of its acoustic output is being stifled. it was like night and day, however having said that I am not a fan of Klipsch mass produced speakers, Something along the lines of the Klipsch $499 or thereabouts is where I would like to start, I am aware of the sheer amount of deserving brands making subs is almost endless, i just want to narrow it down to a few good prospects, any help would be highly appreciated
