Wanted: budget 5.1 speaker set suggestions

For X-series, the X-CS center and either X-LSs front and rear or 3 X-CSs up front and X-LSs rear. The X-LSs have good bass though they are fairly large for a bookshelf; X-CSs even larger.

The Ascends are also very good speakers. I consider them neutral, not too warm, not too bright and very accurate sounding.

I personally would do the x-mtm's as mains. And x-cs's as rears. JMO

Many people say Axioms are neutral; I've always thought them to be on the bright side. If you're one of those people who say Axioms are neutral, then Ascends are warm by comparison. However, if you're one who says Axiom are bright, then Ascends could be neutral depending on the model. I've heard the HTM-200 and the CBM-170 SE and I'd say the HTM-200 is pretty close to neutral, but the CBM-170 SE is quite a bit warmer by comparison IMO. Everyone has a different scale is my point which is something we're all aware of. Nevertheless, Ascends are awesome speakers.

For both front and rears for $184 shipped per pair. They are floor standing so you don't need the expense of pedestals. They have two 6 1/2 woofers so they should do for your room size.

Polk Center for about $100 shipped.

Throw in an eD A5-350 For $600 shipped.

So $1100. Leaves you some cash for interconnects.
