I am looking to finally get a sub for my HT. I have the following items so far:

Paradigm Atom v.3 (fronts)
Paradigm CC170 v.3 (center)
Paradigm ADP 170 v.4 (rear surrounds)
Sony STR-DE597 (receiver)
Panasonic TH42PX75 (hdtv)

I want to stay with Paradigm but can't decide which model sub to get as I will probably upgrade my speakers again this year or next. I was thinking of getting the PDR-10 or the PDR-12.

Appreciate all responses,
Thanks,
Eric

I am not real familiar with the Paradigm line but is there a reason you want to stay with that brand? I konw that the rest of your equipment is Paradigm but if you branch out I think it would open up your possibilities greatly.

mojo_13,

Thanks for the quick response. I want to stay with Paradigm because from everything I have read it is not a good idea to mix different speaker brands together as they won't produce the best possible sound.

Please correct me if I am totally wrong with this thought.

Thanks,
Eric

That's more of a concern for matching the speakers than it is matching the subwoofer to the speakers. The subwoofer will largely be playing frequencies the speakers won't so there's no real concern there. Plus in some cases other subwoofers are better than the ones from the speaker manufacturers.

Paradigm makes a decent subwoofer though, better than a bunch of speaker companies. But I don't think the PDR series is one of their best from what I've read.

SVS or HSU will likely offer a lot more for your money (whatever your budget is). I'm sure there are other things worth considering but I've only recently been looking in to subwoofers lately after being out of the loop for a good 5 or 6 years but I'm after different things than you are.

Which models from SVS or HSU do you think would be a good fit with my current speakers?

Thanks,
Eric

keep an eye out for SVS b-stock - https://svsound.com/store/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_ID=12

both HSU and SVS will be very comparative, in general it is claimed the HSU's are usually a bit better for music, and SVS a tad better for HT.
that being said, I have HSU for HT. (well 60% HT & 40% music)

The model you choose, will be considered more on what budget you are looking to spend, and how deep you want your bass.
Honestly, you can not go wrong with either of them.;)

Being in Canada, I would say research which one will offer a better shipping price to you (with the model of your choice, without breaking the bank).
check out this place (for canada sales on SVS - http://www.sonicboomaudio.com/

I have had a look at HSU and SVS and Paradigm and would appreciate any feedback and which sub you think is best from the three below and why:

HSU - VTF-1 ($399 US, would have to pay shipping)

SVS - PB10-NSD ($499 CND, $35 CDN to ship to Ottawa)

Paradigm - PDR-10 ($398.88 CDN local dealer here in Ottawa)

Thanks,
Eric

Congratulations

Please make sure to post your own thread including photos of your thoughts. :D
I sure will. As to the original poster, HSU makes some subs that are cheaper than the SVS pb10 NDS, if would suggest waiting, but, you can always get one of the cheaper HSU subs.

I have a Paradigm speaker setup, bookshelves in front and atoms in the rear with an HSU 2,3. Best BANG for the BUCK.

Paradigm makes two good subs, the Servo 15 and the Sig Servo. They are very good subs but not worth the money since you can get an equal with SVS, HSU, ED...for way less money.

I've owned the PB-10 and it is an excellent sub for the price.
