Want to build a sub or two.

Iv been shopping for subs and would pull the trigger on a svs pb12 nsd if they were available but there not and it seems I can get more output per dollar if i build anyways. So Iv decided to build a sub. Im really looking for a fairly simple design like the "simple kappa perfect". (those subwoofers dont seem to be available anymore)? The room is about 3000 cubic feet. And I like the idea of using the ep2500. Ideally if i could build two smaller sealed subs somewhere in size range of 15" x 15" x 20" or so. My use is about 70% music and 30 Movies. My mains are klipsch rf-82. I would like to stay Under $800 if possible. Just hoping someone could point me in the direction of some fairly simple designs. Thanks alot!

Sweet. Is the room open to any other rooms? It sounds like a medium sized room, so if I were you, instead of an EP2500, I would get the sealed rythmik 15" DIY kit.

Two would definitely overshoot your budget but I think in this case with your emphasis on music it would be worthwhile.

If you do go the Pro Amp route, I guess I can help you find a driver.

Now regarding the Infinities, the Infinity 120.9 is supposed to be a dropin replacement. But that is a vented sub. I don't know if you necessarily need a vented sub to get low end if your room isn't open, and I noticed you would prefer sealed.

Nothing is simpler than a sealed sub. Assuming you can cut a straight line in wood. TC Sounds subs tend to be the best sealed because they like smaller boxes. With the EP2500 you might check out the Epic line. By the time you get materials, tools, and everything else you will fill that budget.

To build boxes I suggest a circular saw + straight edge boxnotes is a free program you can use to calculate box dimensions and see what fits.

What tools do you already have?

Suggestions if you don't want a huge investment:

Quality circ saw, Clamp Fence, quality router (I use a 2.5 HP Hitachi, moves through material like it's not there). Jasper Circle jig.

I do just dado and glue so I don't have a compresser and pin nail gun. But I have a truck load of 24/36/42 inch bar clamps. I have eight corner clamps.

If you can get larger stock to your work area it is suggested. You can line up all your dimensional cuts with one long cut and you avoid any minute variance from several same size cuts.

Iv had my eye on the rhythmik kits for a while, I just wasnt sure if I could put something else together for about the same money and end up with the same or more output. The room is open to the kitchen and dining room so its fairly large and the klipsch can belt it out pretty good so im worried about not getting enough subwoofer. So is my idea of two good sealed subs equaling the output of one good vented sub on the right track?? As far as tools I have a good circular saw, a craftsman 1 & 3/4 hp router and could borrow my dads table saw. i would need to get some clamps and circle jig and what not but we dont need to include that in the budget cause thats stuff I need to have around the house anyways.....

If you have the Craftsman 1.75 HP router I think you do: IMO they are junk, junk, junk.

I know I have two of them that I simply use for cutout duty. No finish or dado work.
